Kenya Takes Another Step Towards Sovereign Cloud
October 2, 2026Kenya recorded more than 11.1 billion detected cyber-threat events during the 2025/26 financial year, highlighting the growing importance of secure, reliable and well-managed IT infrastructure for businesses.
According to the latest data from the Communications Authority of Kenya, the number of detected cyber threats increased by 29%, from 8.6 billion in the previous financial year to more than 11.1 billion. The figures come as organisations across Kenya continue to expand their use of digital platforms, connected systems and online services.
One area that recorded a significant increase was Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) activity, with detected incidents rising by 114.3% to approximately 72.16 million during the year. DDoS attacks can overwhelm websites, servers and networks with large volumes of traffic, potentially disrupting access to critical digital services.
What is driving the increase?
The latest figures show that system vulnerabilities accounted for the largest share of detected threats, representing approximately 95.4% of the total. Malware and web application attacks also recorded substantial increases during the period.
For businesses, this highlights the importance of maintaining technology environments that are regularly updated, properly configured and actively monitored.
Cybersecurity is no longer limited to protecting a single computer. A modern business environment can include routers, switches, access points, servers, computers, cloud applications, CCTV systems and other connected devices. Each forms part of the wider technology infrastructure that needs to be managed and protected.
What can businesses do?
A proactive approach can help organisations strengthen their digital environments. Measures such as regular software and firmware updates, secure passwords, properly configured firewalls, network monitoring, intrusion detection and appropriate backup systems can form part of a broader cybersecurity strategy.
Businesses should also regularly review their networks and IT infrastructure to identify vulnerabilities before they become operational problems.
As businesses become increasingly connected, reliable infrastructure and network security go hand in hand.
At Micro Depth Technologies (MDT), we provide technology solutions spanning networking, IT infrastructure, business technology and managed IT services, helping organisations build reliable technology environments that support everyday operations and future growth.
The message is simple: a stronger business starts with a stronger technology foundation.
